The Finnish Cultural Foundation is awarding grants for the popularization of science and art and for translating both non-fiction and scientific literature. Approximately 400,000 euros have been allocated for these purposes in the October 2023 application round.

Grant Application Schedule

The grant is open for application in the October application round. Applications close at 4 pm Finnish time (EET) on the last day of the application period.

Eligible Applicants

Private individuals, working groups and registered associations from all fields of science and arts are eligible to apply for the grant.

Grant Purpose

The Non-fiction Books, Popularization of Science and Art Grant is intended for the realization of popularized scientific literature, biographies, textbooks, podcast recordings, reviews and other publications dealing with science and art, as well as for the translation of non-fiction and scientific literature. It can be applied for work, project expenses, or both together.

Writing a non-fiction book in popularized form is considered literary work, not research. The working grant for literary work is 30,000 euros per year.

How to Apply

The application is submitted to the Online Application Service during the October application period. This special purpose grant can be selected in the Grant Type menu on the Application page of the application form.

As a prerequisite for the grant, the work must be published either as a complete work, an online publication, or as articles. The work plan of the application must present the work's planned publication and distribution channels.

The details of the publication should be submitted to the Cultural Foundation together with the report on the use of the grant.
