Information about the grants of the October round

On average, about one in ten applications is successful in the October application round. Due to donors of the Foundation determining the purposes for which donor funds are used, acceptance rates vary in the fields of science and art.

Hundreds of one-year working grants in science and art are awarded every year. These usually comprise almost half of all the awarded grants. More than 150 of them are multi-year. The toughest competition is for the four-year grants.

Only a small number of large grants of at least 100,000 euros are awarded annually, usually around twenty per year. The number of grants of more than 200,000 euros awarded is approximately ten per year. Almost 150 small grants of less than 6,000 euros are awarded each year.

The median grant sum awarded in science is the size of a one-year grant, i.e. around 30,000 euros. In art the median sum is smaller, less than 20,000 euros.

The youngest grant recipients have been under ten years old, the oldest over 80 years old. Most of the grants are awarded to young applicants. Grants are awarded widely across Finland.
