The Finnish Cultural Foundation has acquired a Stradivari violin that used to belong to late conductor Paavo Berglund.

At the same time the performing artist's rights to Berglund's recordings as well as his valuable collection of orchestral sheet music were donated to the foundation. The latter material will be made available to researchers in ten years' time.

The Stradivari violin will carry the sobriquet "ex Berglund" and it will form a valuable extension to the Finnish Cultural Foundation's collection of bowed string instruments. At the moment, the collection consists of 46 instruments, most of them of Italian or French origin. They are lent in five year periods to performers that have a permanent residence in Finland.
