Hôtel Chevillon is located in the village of Grez-sur-Loing about 70 kilometres south of Paris and about nine kilometres from the town of Fontainebleau. The village has a population of about 1,300 and it was already attracting artists, writers, composers and musicians at the end of the 19th century.

Hôtel Chevillon has a total of seven apartments, six studios and one study. The study is intended for writers and the studios for visual artists. Family members may not accompany the resident artist for the residency.

Hôtel Chevillon is owned by Stiftelsen Grez-sur-Loing, a Swedish foundation, which has rented out working space in the building to other foundations (such as the Finnish Cultural Foundation) since 1994. For more information about the place, visit the foundation's website at www.grez-stiftelsen.se.
